Hi David, I just wanted to kindly reach out and say how beautiful, vulnerable, emotional, and spiritual this was. I unexpectedly stumbled upon this read, as well as your Substack.

Suffering, on this side of Heaven, can very much be a mystery, but also, as the great Saints teach us — a gift. Your writing definitely reminded me of this reality of the Christian life. We all have a story, and we are indeed never alone. Keep going! :)

May Our Lord and Our Lady bless you always 🌹🙏

Hi Genevieve, thank you so much for your very kind note! I really appreciate the encouragement! I've been a bit lazy with my writing lately, and this is the push I need to keep going!

God bless you,

David

A gripping and compassionate reflection, David. Thank you! I'm going to share with my wife, who also suffers from chronic pain.

Thanks, Colin! I’m sorry to hear your wife is also in chronic pain. I’d love to talk with her about it next time I’m in New York.

Good words, David. Thank you for sharing a part of your journey. It’s inspiration that “it is better to go to a house of mourning” and to embrace our own suffering for the hard won wisdom and tempered joy it can bring. And a good reminder to slow down and take time to really “see” others.
